Three killed and seven injured in lorry-van collision

Three persons were killed and seven others were seriously injured when a van transporting members of a popular music group in Chilaw, collided with a lorry head-on in the Arachchikattuwa area on the Colombo-Puttalam main road. 
 
The incident took place yesterday at 3.30am. The injured were admitted to the Chilaw Hospital by the residents of the area, police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said. 
 
The three victims were members of the ‘HeartBlack’ music group in Chilaw and were returning home after performing at a wedding in Thabbowa. 
 
The lorry was transporting rice to Vavuniya from Colombo at the time it collided with the van. 
 
SP Rohana said that the victims were identified as Romesh Ranasinghe (24), Anne Sanjeewa (24) and Jude Bastians (29). 
 
According to eyewitnesses the van had travelled at a high speed at the time of the incident. The Chilaw police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (Supun Dias and Lalith Navaratne)
