Three CID teams to investigate Dr. Jayasinghe’s death

Three teams from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is conducting investigations into the killing of a 40-year-old doctor in Thalgahahandiya, Karandeniya outside his dispensary on Thursday night by two unidentified men who came in a motorbike.

Southern Province DIG Vijaya Amerasinghe said that already five teams are conducting investigations into the unfortunate incident. No suspects have been arrested so far. The funeral is to be held tomorrow, October 3, 2011.

Dr. Prasad Jayasinghe had finished his work and was about to cross the road to get into his car around 10pm on Thursday night when he was shot by the two men., The reason behind the incident is yet to be established. But according to people in the area some people had been jealous and unhappy with the doctor for his social service work. It is reported that the doctor had also received several death threats.

Residents of the area said that the doctor who was attached to the Boraketiya Government Hospital was respected by the public for his remarkable service as most of the time he had not charged from his patients especially from monks, low income families and security forces personnel., A tense situation prevailed in the Thalgahahandiya area as the police came to the scene, and the police team was surrounded by angry crowds.  (Supun Dias)
