National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa said though the government has not reached a decision on the13th Amendment, his party wanted it repealed.

He was responding to a question asked by a journalist that Cabinet spokesman and Minister Keheliya Rambukwella had at a Cabinet briefing said the government had not taken a decision on the 13th Amendment.

“We want the 13th amendment to be repealed. We want to express our stance and to urge the government to realize the futility of the amendment,” Minister Weerawansa said.

Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) Secretary General and Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, who also spoke at the news conference stressed that the 13th amendment should be done away with. “The 13th amendment was forced upon Sri Lanka on the assurance that the Tamil rebel groups would be disarmed but that never happened and its very purpose no longer exists today.” (Sarasi Paranamanna) (Pix by Kithsiri de Mel)
