Petroleum Resources Minister Susil Premajayantha said today that motorists who were affected by the use of contaminated petrol but did not have bills to substantiate their claims for compensation could submit affidavits instead.

The minister said this in parliament when replying to a question asked by United National Party MP Dayasiri Jayasekera who asked whether claims made by motorists who had no bill would be rejected.

Mr. Jayasekera said compensation should cover the full cost of damages without laying down a maximum amount.

He said opposition leader Ranil Wickremesighe had to spend Rs.75,000 to have his car repaired as a result of using contaminated petrol.
Minister Premajantha said the opposition leader could also claim damages like any other motorist and his ministry would help him in this matter. (Yohan Perera)
