While claiming that international community should support countries that have faced threat of terrorism, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that there should be no double stance or policies favoring one side of the issue.

Addressing the 16th Heads of State Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in the Iranian capital of Teheran on Thursday, the Sri Lankan President said that there should be no interference to internal matters of a state as mentioned in the United Nations convention and the Non-Aligned policies.

“Sri Lanka has gained many victories as a nation while achieving millennium development goals amidst a weaker global economic environment after eliminating terrorism,” he said.

The President also said that Sri Lanka will continuously support multilateral efforts to prevent all forms of terrorism and to safeguard global peace and security. The world is facing a threat of global terrorism and pointed out that Sri Lanka overcame the challenge of terrorism three years ago by acting on a clear stance, he added.

The two-day meeting of the Heads of State is held under the theme "Lasting Peace through Joint Global Governance" this year with the participation of leaders and representatives from 120 countries are attending the summit.
