UPFA Colombo district candidate Udaya Gammanpila who backed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the parliamentary election, today said they would continue their struggle despite the electoral defeat.

Posting a status on his Facebook page, Gammanpila said the UPFA secured eight electoral districts against the UNP's 11 and TNA's three and said the UNP will form a minority government even though neither party had secured a majority in parliament.

“We have lost the election. Thank you for joining us to secure the motherland. The struggle will continue despite the electoral defeat,” he said.
