The import of Rolls Royce engines not transparent: UNP

The United National Party (UNP) today charged that the contract to import 10 Rolls Royce Aircraft engines worth US dollars 800 million was not transparent.

“The contract has not even been forwarded to the Cabinet. It came only as a note to Parliament. Another party that is hoping to make millions and a commission has played a major role in these contracts,” UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said.

He said another contract which sought the permission to import US$2.5 billion worth of Aircraft spare parts had also been submitted to Parliament.
Mr. Attanayake said these contracts were not essential to the country and alleged they were attempts at bribing Britain prior to the Commonwealth Summit. (Yohan Perera and Lahiru Pothmulla)
