Tensions after bus accident

 A tense situation arose at the Belummahara Junction a this evening when local residents tried to set fire to a bus that mowed down and killed a 4 year old child and hospitalized the child’s mother.

Residents of the area overturned the bus and pushed it into a nearby paddy field but their attempt to set the bus ablaze was foiled by police who rushed to the scene.

The mother and child had been crossing the road when a private bus knocked them down. The bus driver has been arrested and the injured woman admitted to the Gampaha hospital. Speaking to Daily Mirror online, Police Spokesman S.P Preshantha Jayakody stated that the Gampaha police are conducting further inquiries and that the situation in the area is calm and now under control.
