A tense atmosphere prevailed at the Keselwatta new market complex when it was declared open by Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha opposition leader Saheer Fhasy (UNP).

The market complex was to be declared open this afternoon by Western province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

The contractor and the residents of the area protested against the unexpected opening of the building complex by the opposition leader resulting in arguments among two factions.

However police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control and stepped up security in the area.  (Siri Mahabellana and Kusal Chamath)
