Ten hand grenades have been recovered near the Hulftsdorp Court Complex in Keselwatta today in the wake of the Movement for Democracy organizing a massive protest in front of the court tomorrow to mark two years of imprisonment of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

The movement is currently engaged in the struggle to get the former Army Commander released. The police received a tip off at around 6.30am today that a parcel with seven hand grenades had been detected down Mihindu Mawatha.

Following the detection another three hand grenades were found near the Deputy Inspector General’s (DIG) office.

These hand grenades are serviceable ones while the SFG 97 grenades are new ones therefore the Special Task Force (STF) will not defuse them. The STF Bomb Disposal Squad was called in by the police following the detection.

The former Army Commander is expected to be brought to courts tomorrow for the hearing of the appeal he had filed against the verdict given on the white flag case. (Supun Dias)
