Maharagama protest dispersed

Police used tear gas to disperse opposition protestors in Maharagama who demonstrated against the arrest of General Sarath Fonseka, some of the protesters said.

The police however denied using teargas but said they had only used water canons to disperse the protesters.

Several such protests were held against the general’s arrest in various parts of the island yesterday as well. (YP)
