Tear gassed to disperse protestors

The police used tear gas to disperse a group of men, who were protesting on the roof top of the Ceylon Electricity Board office in Kandy a short while ago, police said.

Sources said since morning about 15 employees working on contract basis commenced the demonstration on the top of the CEB Deputy General Manager’s office in Kandy demanding the authorities to place them on the permanent cadre. Later in the day, another group of employees also joined them blocking the road leading to the Asgiriya Police ground.

Later police used teargas to disperse the protestors. Sources said at least two employees were receiving treatment at the Kandy hospital due to the incident.(JALJ)
