Tamil political parties have drafted a memorandum to be submitted to President Mahinda Rajapaksa which also calls for the implementation of the 13th Amendment as well a political solution to the Tamil issue.

With the war now over and the LTTE also eliminated the Tamil parties have also urged President Mahinda Rajapaksa to release or expedite cases against Tamil political prisoners who are in jails around the country.

The Tamil parties which are to submit the memorandum includes the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP) led by Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, the EPDP led by Minister Douglas Devananda and the TULF led by V. Ananda Sangaree.

TMVP spokesman Azad Maulana said that the Tamil parties met in Batticaloa over the weekend and agreed on the memorandum to be submitted to the President and also decided to invite the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) for future talks.

The Tamil parties have been meeting over the past few weeks but the TNA has so far not attended the talks, which was initiated by EPDP leader Minister Douglas Devananda. (Daily Mirror online)
