Talks on setting up joint opp. pact underway

Discussions on establishing a joint opposition understanding is underway with initial talks being held today between UNP national leader and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Democratic Peoples Front leader Mano Ganesan with both deciding to start a dialogue among opposition political parties in this regard.

During today’s talks with Mr. Ganesan, Mr. Wickremesinghe had expressed his desire to bring in the TNA, JVP and the Democratic Party (DP) led by former Army commander Sarath Fonseka together.

Mr. Ganesan told the Daily Mirror that he informed Mr. Wickremesinghe that he had already met JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Former Army Commander Fonseka.

According to Mr. Ganesan the position is that all parties would have a dialogue on forming an arrangement.

He said a common candidate for a future presidential election would be announced if the parties manage to form a common front. (YP)
