Contrary to Jordanian media reports, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment said they have not lifted the ban placed on sending maids to Jordan as discussions on this matter are still continuing.

The chairman of the bureau, Kingsley Ranawak said the Sri Lankan embassy in Jordan is currently conducting discussions regarding salary increments with the Jordanian recruitment agencies. He also said the bureau plans to hold discussions regarding minimizing the repatriation cost of a maid with these agencies.

The suspension was placed as agencies in Jordan had refused to increase the salary of a maid to USD 200 even though the bureau had repeatedly made the request for an increase.(Daily Mirror online)
