Ruhunu University Students Union today expressed their objection regarding the University administration’s lack of response concerning the attack on six students few days ago.

Ruhunu University Union President Duminda Tharaka speaking at a press briefing said that although they have made a complaint to the university administration regarding the attack of six students at the university premises on January 14, no disciplinary action have been taken against the accused students so far.

“One among the six injured students is still hospitalized. There was another attack on a student on January 19. The student had been studying for his examination when he was attacked by several masked individuals. Currently despite the two complaints we have made, the university administration remains silent,” he said.

He pointed out that the silence of the university administration is an indirect approval of the attacks and added that it would only result in an increase on the assaults on students. He also pointed out that student-clashes develop only when such issues are left unresolved.

“Therefore we urge the university administration to hold an investigation into the matter and take disciplinary action against the responsible students,” he added. (Lakna Paranamanna)
