No loopholes in ballot paper printing: Govt. Printer

16 December 2014 03:31 pm

The Department of Government Printing said today the printing of ballot papers was continuing under special security arrangements and denied allegations about any irregularities and security lapses in the printing process.

Earlier, the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) drew the attention of the Government Printer to media reports that the department’s security officers had been replaced by police personnel while outsiders were alleged to have been recruited to work in the Confidential Division of the Government Press.

Acting Government Printer P.H.L.V. Silva in his response to PAFFREL said the confidentiality involved in the process of printing ballot papers had not been compromised. He said no outsiders had been hired to work in the Confidential Division of the Department.

Mr. Silva said ballot papers were being printed under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. According to him, the police and the security officers attached to the Department were sufficient to take care of the security aspect. (Kelum Bandara)
