Sustaining a victory is the hardest part: Dullas

It is regrettable that Sri Lanka was not able to maintain the winning streak in cricket after its greatest World Cup victory in 1996 thanks to cricketers like Arjuna, Sanath, Aravinda and others, Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

Addressing a ceremony held to felicitate employees at the Matara Municipal Council (MMC) and to distribute risk allowance at the MMC auditorium, Minister Alahapperuma said the most difficult part of a victory is to sustain it.

“When we get married we have to make sacrifices to maintain a successful married life. Similarly, only a few in the field of politics are capable of commanding his or her popularity and respect among the public for long, and that is determined by their deeds,” Minister Alahapperuma stressed.

The government is taking great pains to make the people enjoy the dividends of peace following the annihilation of the LTTE and terrorism. This is a difficult task as the government has to confront many a setback in the local and international forum.

Sanath Jayasuriya put Matara on the world map by his heroics in cricket. The mayor and his staff are on a mission to do the same by making Matara one of the cleanest cities with a highly efficient administration. This is commendable, Minister Alahapperuma said. (Sandun A. Jaysekera)
