The Health Ministry will ban substandard food packaging material that changes the nature and quality of food, with effect from tomorrow.

The order issued by the Ministry says import, manufacture, transport, advertise for sale, expose for sale, store, use or distribute such packaging material will be banned as it poses a serious threat to the health of the consumer.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena instructed officials to impose these regulations from July 1st, under the Food Act of 1980 to ensure food safety, a spokesman said. (SAJ)
