The Government has decided to appoint a Cabinet Sub-Committee consisting of six ministers to monitor the process of speedy implementation of the proposals in the Action Plan prepared by the relevant Ministries and authorised agencies on human rights. 
 

Acting cabinet spokesman, Environment Minister Anura Priyadhrshana Yapa said yesterday that the cabinet sub committee will comprise Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Hon. Basil Rajapaksa, Prof G.L.Peiris, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, and Dilan Perera,

 

It was noted that Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Plantation Industries continues to function as the Special Envoy of the President on Human Rights and as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Officials’ Committee.

 

It was further decided that Mr. Mohan Peiris, President’s Counsel, Former Attorney General and presently serving as the Senior Legal Advisor to the Cabinet of Ministers, will assist the Cabinet Sub-Committee and the Committee may co-opt the services of any other officials deemed necessary, Minister Yapa added.

 

The government will educate the international community on the action plan implemented by the government after the dawn of peace in Sri Lanka in 2009 with emphasis on reconciliation and reconstruction programmes in thye North.

 

The exercise will highlight the rehabilitation and reconstruction programme, resettlement of nearly 250,000 IDPs, rehabilitation of nearly 10,000 ex-LTTE cadres and development infrastructure, agriculture and restoration of civil administration while assisting the people in the North-East to increase their income, Minister Yapa emphasised. 

 

Minister Anura Priyadhrshana Yapa said that the Sri Lanka was ready to tell the untold story to the world as the world knows only the misinformation and fabrications of the pro-LTTE lobbies and those who were not happy about the Sri Lanka’s victory against terrorism.

 

“Yes, we are aware that the UN Human Rights Council is meeting in Geneva in a few days time and certain governments in the west are in a move to pass a resolution against Sri Lanka. What is unfortunate is that these anti-Sri Lanka lobbyists have heard only the story told by one side which is totally black. They must listen to Sri Lanka as well before they take a decision and that is exactly what we are going to do in the next few weeks,” Minister Yapa stressed.
