Students released on bail

Six members of a student union of the Rajarata University who were taken into custody for allegedly stabbing the former Vice President of the student union of the Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty were  produced before the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Darshika Wimalasiri. They were released on personal bail amounting to Rs.100,000 each.

The suspects Lasantha Pradeep Dasanayake, Upul Priyantha Kumara Tilakaratne, Udara Mahesh Weerasingjhe, Dinesh Pushpakumara, Tiran Tilaksha Chandrasiri and Aruna Sahantha Swarnetilleka had been taken into custody by the Mihintale police.

Police informed court that the suspects had stabbed the former Vice President of a rival student union, Deshapirya Hellarawa who was on his way to the Mihintale town for dinner on December 3, 2011. (Upali Ananda)
