Students from the Visual and Performing Arts University as well as the Ruhunu University today held protests outside the university premises calling on the government to ease their burden by bringing down the increased fuel prices.

Ruhunu Students’ Union President Nandika Gunasekara said the universities authorities had sent letters to the campus hostel students informing them that hostel chargers would be increased from Rs.50 up to Rs.800 on a monthly basis from this month.

“The students have been informed that the moneys were necessary for the maintenance of the hostel premises. With the increasing prices these sums are bound to be increased further,” Gunasekara said. (Olindhi Jayasundere)
