A 17 year old girl in Gampola has succumbed to her injuries after she set herself ablaze for failing her O/Level examinations. According to her family, the victim had ambitions of becoming a doctor and was shocked when she did not get through the exams.

Her twin sister however passed with flying colours.

The victim, V. Sahana had been unable to bear the brunt of her low marks and had set herself ablaze when her family members were away from the house.

A neighbour who saw fire burning inside Sahana’s house had immediately broken the front door which had been locked and found Sahana seated quietly in a corner while the flames engulfed her.

“She just sat in a corner quietly while she was burning. She must have been in deep pain for not passing her O/Level exams,” the neighbour told Daily Mirror online.

Sahana was immediately rushed to the Gampola Hospital where doctors tried their best to save her. However due to the deep burn wounds all over her body, Sahana succumbed to her injuries. (Daily Mirror online)
