Strike after engine driver changes two engines

A strike by engine drivers launched for few hours this morning was called off on an assurance that disciplinary action will be taken against an engine driver who had changed two railway engines without permission, Railway Station Masters' Union said.

Its Vice President H.A. Piyal Wijesiri said this particular engine driver had changed the two engines without obtaining the prior permission of the Station Master and the Controller on duty at the Peradeniya Railway station.

He said the strike was called off soon after the Railways General Manager assured that an investigations would be held into this matter. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
