The Special Task Force (STF) is currently raiding the office of General Sarath Fonseka located near Royal College in Colombo. An official at the General’s office said that over 200 STF personnel are searching the premises.

Our reporter at the scene said that the office has been surrounded by masked STF officers and the media is not being given access to the office.

UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya who visited the scene at the time of the raid, later told reporters that the STF had informed him they were looking for army deserters and illegal weapons hidden at the location but had not found anything during the search.

Several other opposition members had also visited the scene at the time of the raid this evening.

When contacted the STF Commandant DIG K.M.L Sarathchandra said that the STF had only assisted the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to conduct the search operation, as the office was under suspicion.

One of the lawyers of General Sarth Fonseka claimed that 15 ex-army personnel were questioned and taken away by the CID, despite of being informed that they were all retired officers and ordinary men.
