Illegal pawning centers

More than 2000 illegal pawning centers currently operate in the country and the public has been asked to be vigilant, the National Gems and Jewellery Authority Chairman Anil Koswatte told Daily Mirror online.

Due to this, new standards are to be introduced for people to receive a professional and fair service from pawing centers in the future, Koswatta added.

"Most of these centers do not have proper standards or offer reasonable services. They have unreasonable terms and conditions for repayment while the customers do not get a genuine valuation for their items," Mr Koswatte said.

"So to remedy this situation in the future the pawing centers will be duly registered and the staff will be trained and a proper system will be put in place  to monitor the performances of these institutions," Mr. Koswatte added. (SD) (Daily Mirror online)
