Health Ministry today stated that a spot fine of up to Rs. 2000 will be introduced as penalty for individuals who facilitate mosquito breeding, through amendments that would be made to the Prevention of Mosquito Breeding Act No 11. of 2007 within the next few weeks.

Health Ministry Spokesman W.M.D. Wanninayake told Daily Mirror Online that Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena has instructed several changes to be made in the Prevention of Mosquito Breeding Act as it more ‘mosquito friendly, than people friendly’. “Some 14 clauses are to be altered under the changes that would be brought about through the amendments to the act,” Mr. Wanninayake added.  (Lakna Paranamanna)
