Specimens of skeletons to be sent to Florida lab

Specimens of the skeletal remains recovered from the mass grave at Matale are to be referred to the Beta Analytical Archaeological Laboratory in Florida USA in order to date them.

Former Supreme Court judge S. I. Imam, the head of the presidential commission to investigate the mass grave, ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to do so last evening.

Retired secretary general of parliament Dhammika Kitulgoda, and retired Supreme Court judge A.L.B.K. Atapattu are the two other members of the commission. State Counsel Chetiya Gunasekara is the secretary to the commission.

The three member commission appointed by President Mahinda Rajapakse met at the Matale district secretariat and heard the evidence on February 25, and 26, 2014.

66 witnesses, including the former JMO of the Matale General Hospital Dr. Ajith Jayasena, and CI  C.W.Wickremesekara, SI Upali Pelawatta, and Sgt. Wijesinghe of the CID gave evidence during the inquiry. (M.W.Somaratne)
