Special Traffic plan on Friday

The police has put into operation a special traffic and security plan for the swearing in of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second term in office on Friday, where roads connecting to the Colombo Fort will be closed from 6.00am to 2.00pm. 

Police officers assisted by the three armed forces and the Special Task Force (STF) would provide security for the event.


The road from Kollupitiya junction upto the Presidential Secretariat, the Justice Akbar Mawatha from Slave island to the Galle Face Hotel roundabout, the Lotus road from Lake House to the Presidential Secretariat, the road from Pettah Clock tower to Lady Bastian Mawatha, the Chittampalam A Gardiner Mawatha up to the Lake House roundabout, the Chatham street will be closed.
 

Police also said that the Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Nawam Mawatha, Uththarananda Mawatha, from Horton Place to the Library roundabout, the F.R Senanayake Mawatha, the road from Dharmapala Mawatha junction to C.W.W Kannangara Mawatha junction will also be closed.
 

Heavy vehicles heading to Colombo from the Galle road have to turn to Lester James Peiris Mawatha (Dickman’s road) and then proceed along the Havelock road to Colombo.


Light vehicles have to turn right from the Kollupitiya junction and then proceed along the Dharmapala Mawatha towards Colombo. (Supun Dias)
