A special probe over the blast in Karadiyanaru, Batticaloa is currently underway and the military has ruled out sabotage over the explosion, Military Spokesperson Major General Ubaya Medawala told Daily Mirror online.

“We rule out sabotage over the explosion and also rule out any political link. Our team is investigating,” the Military Spokesperson told Daily Mirror online.

Major General Medawala added that the special team included the government analyst and the senior Eastern Province DIGs were already at the blast site.

Deputy Resettlement Minister Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan also visited the blast site a short while ago while Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna was also expected to visit the area as the acting Defence Minister in the absence of President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Meanwhile Major General Medawala said that the explosion occurred when three explosives laiden containers belonging to a Chinese company which were kept at the Karadiyanaru Police Station for safety had exploded.

The explosion took place  while they were taking out some of the explosives triggering a chain reaction resulting in over 25 people being killed. (Daily Mirror online)
