Speaker warns Sajith

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa today warned he would send United National Party (UNP) deputy leader Sajith Premadasa out of the chamber of Parliament if he did not adhere to the ruling given by him.

It happened after Mr. Premadasa asked a question about the wild  elephant population when United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP A.H.M Azwer raising a point of order said Mr. Premadasa had asked a similar question on the same subject one month ago.

“According to Standing Orders, an identical question cannot be raised on two occasions,” the Speaker said.

He said he would give his ruling after checking the two questions and until such time Mr. Premadasa would not be allowed to ask this question.
The Speaker reprimanded Mr. Premadasa when he attempted to make some comments despite the Speaker saying no.
“I will send you out. There cannot be separate rules for you,” he said.

However, a little later the Speaker, allowed Mr. Premadasa to ask his question. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
