South Korean vessel detained

The Sri Lankan Navy has taken into custody a South Korean merchant vessel about 40 nautical miles off the coast of Sri Lanka, after the Second Engineer of the ship, a Russian had fallen overboard in Sri Lankan waters last evening, Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya told Daily Mirror online

The vessel which was heading towards Goa was detained after three navy vessels were sent to intercept it, the vessel will be detained until the police investigations are complete, Commander Warnakulasuriya said.

The Russian sailor who had fallen overboard was rescued by a bunker barge in the vicinity and was later hospitalized. (Daily Mirror online)
