A major human smuggling network operating in the island has come to light after five persons who tried to reach
Australia illegally on Sunday were arrested by the naval intelligence in Marawila, navy spokesman Captain Athula Senarath told Daily Mirror online

The main suspect who facilitated the other four has also been taken into custody during the raid by the navy. It is believed that the suspects were trying to reach Australia illegally by using a multi-day fishing trawler.

It has been reveled that the occupants have paid large sums of money to the human smugglers who are operating with the help of other maritime terrorists and criminals.

The navy requests the public not to be deceived by these smugglers and not try to leave the island illegally.  (Daily Mirror online)
