Sri Lanka is looking for the possibility of exporting condensed milk, the Ministry of Livestock Development said today. The Ministry said an international standard condensed milk brand with the name ‘Highland Milkmite’ has already been developed for this purpose by state owned Milkco Ltd.

This new condensed milk is said to have a shelf life of nine months according to the ministry.

In another innovative move Mikco Ltd had undertaken trials to produce a low calorie ice cream. This is to be introduced to the market in the near future.

However the next innovative product that would enter the market shortly, is the long life UHT milk which has a shelf life of one month. This is said to be as significant as pasteurised milk which can last only three days according to the ministry. (Yohan Perera)
