Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Saturday that the Sri Lankan Security Forces should be geared to face the future terrorist threats across the borders of the country.

Speaking at the Palali Security Base, Mr. Wickremesinghe said the Sri Lankan Army, Navy and the Air-force should be modernized and equipped to face these threats.

“We will have to think of the new roles that our forces will have to play when the South Asian region develops,” he said.

He said the Sri Lankan Security Forces should be geared to face challenges that the South Asian region might face by 2025.

“Sri Lanka should enhance its military force in addition to the region’s economic strength,” he said.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said the situation would be the same with the police. He said some 400 male and 200 female constables would be recruited to the Police from Jaffna.

He encouraged the forces to not live in the past, but to look for challenges that lie in the future. (YP)
