A 69-run partnership between Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene saw Sri Lanka make 166 for the loss of 2 wickets, at stumps on day two of the third and final test against Australia at the SSC today.

Sangakkara, who is playing his 100th career test match, was on 61 whilst Jayawardene was on 31.

Earlier, having bowled out the Australians for 316, Sri Lanka reached 86 for the loss of one wicket at tea, before Tharanga Paranavithana was caught by Ricky Ponting for 46.

Jayawardene -- who has made 10 test centuries at the venue -- joined Sangakkara and frustrated the Australian bowlers before play ended early due to bad light. (SMD)
