SL gets over 85, 000 tourists in January

The number of tourists visited Sri Lanka during the month of January 2012 rose 15.7 percent to 85, 874
 
Arrivals from all the major markets have increased during the month, with the highest number of tourists coming from the Western Europe amounting to 36,497 tourists. This was growth of 11.9 percent year-on-year.
 
Arrivals from Eastern Europe during January grew 22.3 percent to 6,838 compared with the previous year. Tourists from Middle East also rose 70 percent to 3950 from a year ago.
 
Tourists from the South Asian region also rose 7.3 percent to 19,209 from a year ago. Out of the lot, 14,615 tourists have come from neighboring India.
 
Sri Lanka also has received 5,177 tourists from North America, which is a growth of 21.1% compared to January 2011. Sri Lanka received 855, 975 tourists in 2011.
