SL excels in women empowerment

Sri Lanka has been placed at 16 in the global gender equality ranking this year, a study by the World Economic Forum reveals.  The country held the same position last time as well.
The Forum, a group based in Switzerland has ranked 134 countries to know how far they have closed gender gaps over the year in the areas of economic participation, education, political empowerment and health. Sri Lanka is ahead of countries such as the United States and Canada as well.
According to its report released Tuesday, Iceland, Norway and Finland consecutively hold the first three positions.
