Six Sri Lankan fishermen and their vessel captured by Somali pirates six months ago have been rescued by a Spanish Naval ship, the Spanish Defence Ministry said.

On Wednesday morning, the Spanish patrol ship ‘Infanta Elena’ spotted the dhow ‘Nimesha Duwa’ lying 50 miles off the coast of Tanzania.
“Under tight security and authorization of force command of Operation Atalanta, the ‘Infanta Elena’ proceeded to intercept it,” it said.

On board were seven suspected Somali pirates and six fishermen, the initial crew of the ship. Both groups were medically checked on board and provided with food and water.
