Six Lankans guilty

The assistant sessions court in Tambaram, Chennai convicted six LTTE sympathisers and sentenced them to one year imprisonment in a case registered against them by the Indian Q Branch police in 2007.

The Q Branch personnel arrested five LTTE sympathisers, Thambianna, Senjames, Jayakumar, Pushpadanraj, Bominathan and Ravikumar, for trying to smuggle out a boat to Sri Lanka for the alleged use of the LTTE.

Q Branch officials alleged that the accused connived and purchased a boat from the south of Tamil Nadu and were trying to smuggle it to Sri Lanka from Ramnad. Police said Senjames and the others purchased the boat on the direction of Thambianna. Police arrested them from Chennai in 2007 and had seized Indian Rs 4.5 lakh from them.

Assistant sessions court judge Sivakumar held all the six accused arrested in the case as guilty of the offence and sentenced them. (Times of India)
