Mirihana Police today informed the Nugegoda Magistrate they would send the extracts of the investigation report on the Sirikotha attack to the Attorney General for his instructions.

Defence Counsel Wasantha Akmeemana, Lakshman Galhena and Vidura P. Manchanayaka appearing with a team of lawyers said their clients had obeyed the court order and had presented themselves to the Mirihana Police every Sunday.

They said that because the suspects had obeyed the court order they be allowed to present themselves to the Mirihana Police on the last Sunday of every month.

The Nugegoda Magistrate Ajith M. Masinghe set aside his earlier order on the 18 suspects including Provincial Councilors Maitree Gunaratne and Shiral Laktilleka and ordered them to appear in person at the Mirihana Police on the last Sunday of every month.

They were alleged to have unlawfully assembled, trespassed, criminally intimidated and damaged Srikotha – the UNP headquarters, at Kotte during a clash that took place after the election of officials to the Executive Committee. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
