She-camel dies due to wrong diagnosis

A she-camel of the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens died on Saturday while being treated on the advice of the veterinary surgeon assuming that she had been pregnant.

However, according to Zoo Director Prabhaswara Senanka  Gunarathne the female camel  named  Rosy was later found not pregnant at the time of the incident and a full probe is expected on the circumstances that led to the death.

It has cost the Zoo Rs. 60,000 in terms of expenses involved in the veterinary surgeon’s fee, medicine and other requisites. An investigation is due to be carried out to establish the cause of the death of the camel. Rosy who hails from Russia is eight years old. Her partner Bindu will now be left unaccompanied.
