The Supreme Court yesterday (23) re-listed to be mentioned on May 3 the fundamental rights petition of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka for the alleged infringement of his fundamental rights to freedom from torture, freedom from arbitrary arrest and detention.

The Bench comprised Chief Justice Shirani A. Bandaranayake, Justices P.A. Ratnayake and R.K. Suresh Chandra.

The counsel for the petitioner on July 25 last year had moved for time from the court to obtain instruction as to whether to proceed with the fundamental rights petition against his arrest and detention.

The Supreme Court had, on February 12 last year, granted leave to proceed with the application for the alleged infringement of his fundamental right to freedom from torture, freedom from arbitrary arrest and detention. (S.S. Selvanayagam)
