Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka has called off his fast, DNA Parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga said. Speaking exclusively to Daily Mirror online Ranatunga said that Sarath Fonseka was taken to the hospital a short while ago.

“The officials, instead of taking the General to the hospital had brought him back to Welikada, upon hearing that we began a protest march to the prison complex. We heard that the General was to begin a fast in protest of the officials not taking him to the hospital,” he said.

The MP further went onto point out that Fonseka decided against the fast as soon as the officials made arrangements to take him to the hospital, “The officials for fear of the fast or for some other reason decided to take the General to the hospital as soon as we arrived and he was taken there a short while ago,” he said.
