Senior students of the University of Aesthetic Studies have been forbidden to meet with first year students due to the fear of ragging and also stopped them from participating in the events organized for the first year students, Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) said.

The Federation said that the university administration had prohibited access to the University premises in Kohuwala due to this.

“The administration does not need to fear that there will be any ragging, we will do our best as a student union to ensure that this doesn’t take place,” the Aesthetic University Student Union President, S. C. Wijesena told Daily Mirror.

Mr. Wijesena explained that it was unfair of the administration to prohibit the students from entering the university premises in Kohuwala as the library and the computer facilities were there.  “We can’t use them or the canteen for an emergency as we have been prohibited to enter,” he said.

He explained that the administration of the university had stopped the senior students from taking part in the programme and had also suspended students for asking the administration not to prohibit the senior students from participating. “These are organized by the students themselves and they were not given any prior warning,” he explained.
