Former UNP Parliamentarians Association today unanimously passed a resolution calling the party to hold a secret ballot in a situation where a consensus can not be reached in electing a leader.

The association had also called for the granting of voting rights for the members of Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas in the event of such a secret poll.

Former UNP Parliamentarians Association President Mahendra Wijeratne told the media today that they had further suggested that the party leader Ranil Wickremasighe resign from the leadership in the event  the party cannot come together to decide on the leadership.
