School closed over wasp invasion

A school in Galgamuwa was closed today morning after it was invaded by wasps, posing a threat to over 400 children present in the premises.

The Sirimavo Bandaranaike Primary School at Galgamuwa was temporarily shut after students who arrived to school today morning found a wasp nest on the roof of one of the school buildings.

The Principal decided to close the school after consultations with the Zonal Director and other senior officials in the area.

The Principal said the wasps had built the nest after the school was closed on Wednesday afternoon. He was hopeful that the school could be re-opened soon.
