School boxing training gone wrong

An 18-year old school boy had been admitted to the hospital for injuries he received during a boxing training session with a soldier without proper safety precautions, the Homagama police said.

This incident had occurred on Sunday evening in the school grounds during the training session. The soldier who was alleged to have struck a blow on the student’s head causing injuries had been apprehended and produced before the Homagama court and later enlarged on bail.

The victim is a resident of Watahena Road, Magammana, Homagama is an Advanced Level student. He has been transferred to the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital.

The police have questioned the Retired Army Major who functions as the boxing trainer of the school regarding the incident. (K. Buddhika Kumarasiri)
