The Supreme Court today granted leave to proceed with regard to the five fundamental rights petitions challenging police inaction during the clashes at Aluthgama in 2014.

The petitioners had cited former senior DIG Anura Senanayake, the IGP, the Secretary to the Law and Order Ministry and the Attorney General as respondents.

The petitioners claimed that the police did not take adequate measures to control the violence that erupted in Dharga Town.
