The main opposition UNP said Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake and Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena should resign immediately for approving the faulty method of calculating the 2011 GCE A/L Z-Score.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka told a news conference that there were several mistakes with regard to the calculation of last year’s A/L Z-Score.
“Everyone including Professor Ralph Thattil who introduced the Z-Score system pointed this out but the Ministries of Education and Higher Education ignored these facts and acted on their own,” he said.  “Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said accurate results will be worked out and none of the students need have any concerns. Now the Supreme Court in its verdict has said that what has happened is wrong and unjust. If we’re to go by this verdict the Education Minister and the Higher Education Minister should hand in their resignations.” (Nishan Casseem)
